Chisholm Trail
The Chisholm Trail is a cattle trail in which 10 million cattle, 1 million
horse and 35 thousand cowboys used to drive cattle to Kansas. The cattle were
then shipped from Kansas to the Eastern United States to fulfill their demand
for beef.
The old trail passes through the western edge of Mustang and there are 13
Chisholm Trail Markers located in the Mustang Public School District. Some
traces of the trail are still visible in areas where the sod ground has not seen
the plow.
Mustang is proud of its Chisholm Trail Heritage and this map was created to show
the locations of each marker as well as the depressions left behind from those
who traveled the trail so long ago.
